“I believe she has a unique talent; a knack for writing interesting and catchy tunes combined with some adept guitar playing.” - Winston Hauschild
Extended Bio / Press release
Incendiary Sweet is the singer-songwriter/indie rock project of Victoria F. She’s an adaptive surfing world champion, and multi-instrumentalist wheelchair user. After a snowboarding accident left her partially paralyzed at age 18, she returned to skiing, surfing and playing music.
When the pandemic shut down surf competitions, she turned her energy toward livestreams, writing and recording. “I’ve played music since I was a kid, played in bands in high-school, but I was always hesitant to perform post-injury. It’s rare to see a wheelchair user on stage. I was afraid it would be awkward and I would be judged as a token or a novelty. When everything shifted online, every open mic was accessible and I could control the camera angle so the music was the focus. I discovered my voice and guitar work was good enough to stand for itself. The momentum kept building.”
An unexpected silver lining of the covid shut-downs led to recording with Vancouver producer Winston Hauschild for her debut tracks. Winston Hauschild specializes in breakthrough recordings for emerging artists. As Winston described “Her drumming background and rhythm guitar skill is unique among singer-songwriters. She is an emerging artist with potential.”
Her music is influenced by Metric, Jack Johnson, Tegan & Sara and Dave Grohl. Incendiary Sweet’s first single were released June 4 with Disaffect Scrolling Thru. Mike Mineo of Obscure Sound reviewed Disaffected Scrolling Thru as "engages initially with a lush guitar-laden bounce and amiably lush vocals, asking "can you be someone you've never been?”. Jane Howkins of York Calling described "Elements of pop, folk and alternative rock. Victoria has a fantastic singing voice and it really works well with the style of the track - I really enjoyed the main melody and the guitarwork on the track is fabulous."
The tracks received nationwide community radioplay, PopCanRadio play, CanQueer podcast plays, numerous Spotify playlisting including Exclaim’s Eh! List inclusion. Disaffected and Fairytales both had three months on the Top 20 of the From The Strait IndieList chart. Jen Dan of The Record Stache wrote "Like the musician’s contrasting name, her music is also full of duality sonically. Latest single 'Disaffected Scrolling Thru' is a hybrid of catchy folk-pop verses and stirring indie rock chorus sections, all tied together with heartfelt vocals and perceptive lyrics."
Incendiary Sweet has performed live at Brewhalla Festival and Fallen Fest in May 2022 as well as performed paid livestreams with Sessions Live during the pandemic. She has played in person shows in the past with members of Hey Ocean and Parlour Steps. She was selected for 2021 Vancouver Intl. Film Fest (VIFF) AMP Talent Accelerator program. Incendiary Sweet was encouraged to keep recording with Winston Hauschild with a City of Vancouver & CreativeBC’s 2021 Vancouver Music Fund recording grant. In 2022, she was selected for Producers Lounge Elev-8 program for burgeoning female producers and currently working on new material. Her 5th single “Physics & Chemistry", a song for the irresistible and problematic ones, released May 13 2022 to widespread playlisting.
